Stoke cut their losses

Back in February 2016, Giannelli Imbula become Stoke City’s record signing.

The Potters spent £18.2m on transfer deadline day to bring in midfielder Giannelli Imbula from FC Porto.

Imbula replaced Xherdan Shaqiri as the club’s most expensive acquisition.

After showing a few bright performances early on his Stoke career, it quickly become apparent that Imbula wasn’t going to be a lightening rod to shoot the Potters up the table.

Under contract at the Bet365 Stadium, reports from L’Equipe on Sunday claim Mark Hughes is ready to sell Imbula this summer.

Off to Nice

The 24-year-old centre-mid is a target for Ligue 1 side Nice, who qualified for the Champions League.

Nice have been busy this summer signing Jean-Victor Makengo , Adrien Tameze and Pierre Lees-Melou, while Jean-Michaël Seri is tipped to leave the club.

It’s believed Imbula could move to Nice on loan, as the clubs agree to split the player’s wages.

Nice believe they can revive the player’s career, much like Mario Balotelli and Hatem Ben Arfa.

The French club are also trying to sign Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma.
