Everton’s crazy valuations

If you thought you were incredulous when you heard Everton’s valuation of Ross Barkley, spare a though for Mauricio Pochettino. The Tottenham boss must have spat his cornflakes across the room.

£50 million for a player with one year left on his contract? Madness.

Spurs aren’t able to stump up that kind of cash unless it’s warranted and are bound to turn their attention elsewhere. The Daily Mail report that they’ll look to a former player to increase their playmaking options.

Former player set to return?

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s previous spell at Tottenham was ill-fated. Signed by Andres Villas-Boas in 2012, he struggled to pin down a place in the starting XI. Sold back to Swansea in 2014, he was gone by the time Pochettino arrived.

Pochettino has since said that he wished the Icelandic midfielder was still at the club.

Calling him the perfect midfielder for Tottenham right now, there’s a belief that Pochettino thinks the 27-year-old is a superior player to 23-year-old Barkley. A deal would cost £25 million.
