Former Manchester City and Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini has revealed that he was never in contact with Leicester City over their vacant managerial position.

The Premier League champions decided to axe Claudio Ranieri last month, following a string of poor results. Mancini, who represented the Foxes as a loan player in 2001, was said to be in line to take over, but former assistant manager Craig Shakespeare has since been handed the reins.

Speaking at a promotional event for Unicef and Panini (H/T the Leicester Mercury), the Italian admitted that he was still very much a Leicester fan. However, he also revealed that no talks had been held between himself and the club regarding taking over from Ranieri, or any other topic for that matter.

“With Leicester, I also played for them and I’m a fan, but to say that I’ll manage them is a pretty long stretch,” said Mancini.

“I’ve never had any kind of contact with their board.”

Mancini has been out of a job since leaving Milan last August, but he doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to land a new position.

His compatriot and former Italy boss Cesare Prandelli, however, claimed that Leicester offered him the job, but he refused because of the way Ranieri was treated at the club, especially less than a year after winning them their very first Premier League title.
