Liverpool v Arsenal - Premier League

Did you notice your team wearing the away kit last season? What about the third strip?

With last season almost a distant memory, let’s walk down memory lane to see how often each Premier League side played in their respective kits.

Ranking the top flight clubs from those who wore their away kits from the least amount of times to the most, starting with the then-reigning champions…

20. Leicester City

As reigning champions of the Premier League, the Foxes opted for an all bright red strip for their away kit, but only wore it on a single occasions, during a 3-0 loss to Chelsea. Craig Shakespeare’s men ended up wearing their white shirt and blue shorts third kit three times as much as the rouge disaster.

19. Tottenham Hotspur

Despite thrashing Stoke City 4-0 at the Bet365 in the royal blue away kit in September, Spurs were not to wear those colours again in the league, choosing their golden alternative version instead for times when colours clashed.

18. Everton

Everton fans would have been forgiven to have asked their club why their dark blue away strip wasn’t used more often last season. The Toffees were seen in their third option, yellow shirt and blue shorts, more often than not when playing away from Goodison Park.

17. Liverpool

Arsenal v Liverpool - Premier League

When Liverpool fans think back to the 2016/17 season, they will most likely remember the awful fluorescent yellow kit as their second strip, but it was rather their all-black uniform, which was their official away kit.

16. Swansea City

The Swans are one of four teams that didn’t even have a third kit last season, but the team from South Wales still only played in their blended blue design on five occasions during the 2016/17 campaign.

15. Hull City

Hull City did have an outrageous pink third strip, but thankfully for supporters of the Tigers it was only worn on two occasions. Meanwhile, the all-black away kit was seen six times in the Premier League last season.

14. Chelsea

In what was their final season with Adidas, following this summer’s switch to Nike, Chelsea donned a stylish all-black away strip with fluorescent edging for games on the road, one of which saw Michy Batshuayi score a title-clinching goal at West Brom.

13. Manchester United

Manchester United supporters only got to see their side don the blue away strip on six occasions last season, with the Red Devils alternating with a white and grey third kit – to boost their merchandise sales presumably.

12. Burnley

Arsenal v Burnley - Premier League

In their return to the top flight, Burnley made sure to stay in the Premier League thanks to an incredible run of form at home, but away from Turf Moor, the Clarets struggled. A third strip all in yellow was seen twice, but most of their miserable away games came in baby blue.

11. West Bromwich Albion

Times away kit worn: 9

The Baggies didn’t bother bringing out an alternative kit last season, instead sticking to an away kit, which, in all fairness, is not to dissimilar to their home strip due to the white shorts and white socks.

10. Bournemouth

Liverpool v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 24

Times away kit worn: 9

Times third kit worn: 5

Known for their home shirt of red and black stripes, the Cherries opted to go all-blue when playing away from the Vitality Stadium, but they also managed to squeeze in a third strip, consisting of bright green shirts, which they worse five times.

9. Southampton

Stoke City v Southampton - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 28

Times away kit worn: 9

Times third kit worn: 1

The Saints did have a third strip; white shirt and red shorts, which they wore away to Bournemouth and in the EFL Cup final, but away from the St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton were mainly seen in their smart black and grey outfit.

8. West Ham

Liverpool v West Ham United - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 29

Times away kit worn: 9

Times third kit worn: N/A

The final team to have worn their away strip on nine occasions last season, West Ham knew not to waste their fans’ money by releasing a third strip, with their white shirt and baby blue shorts combo on display for games away from east London.

7. Middlesbrough

Manchester United v Middlesbrough - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 26

Times away kit worn: 10

Times third kit worn: 2

Boro lasted just a single season in the top flight, so these kits will go down as pieces of memorabilia on Teeside. Away from home, the Northeast club wore a dark blue strip and in the two times where colours really clashed, they used their 2015/16 yellow away kit.

6. Manchester City

West Bromwich Albion v Manchester City - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 27

Times away kit worn: 10

Times third kit worn: 1

City were trolled for their third kit; an orange, blue and purple design, which was only seen once in the Premier League last season, but the response for their black away strip was far better and more frequently used.

5. Watford

Middlesbrough v Watford - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 27

Times away kit worn: 11

Times third kit worn: N/A

Being the only team in the Premier League who wear yellow, Watford didn’t have too much need for an away kit, let alone a third. Nonetheless, the Hornets donned their all-white away strip on 11 occasions, giving the fans good value for their money.

4. Arsenal

Liverpool v Arsenal - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 22

Times away kit worn: 11

Times third kit worn: 5

Clearly one of the more proportional teams when it came to wearing their respective kits last year, the Gunners had an away kit of yellow and grey design, with a third in dark blue and florescent edging.

3. Stoke City

Sunderland v Stoke City - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 26

Times away kit worn: 12

Times third kit worn: N/A

Arguably one of the best looking kits from the Premier League last season, Stoke City’s away strip was on show plenty of times for the Potters fans to fall in love with the all-sky blue uniform.

2. Sunderland

Manchester United v Sunderland - Premier League

Times home kit worn: 22

Times away kit worn: 12

Times third kit worn: 4

It didn’t really matter which kit Sunderland wore away from home last season; whether it was the all-white away strip or the hideous purple and pink striped third, the Black Cats could barely muster any points on the road as they dropped out of the Premier League.

1. Crystal Palace

FBL-ENG-PR-CHELSEA-CRYSTAL PALACE

Times home kit worn: 23

Times away kit worn: 15

Times third kit worn: N/A

Crystal Palace’s lack of a third kit helped them reach the summit as the Premier League side who donned their away kit the most last season. Their all-yellow away design was utilised a lot, as a result of them not being able to play in home colours against teams in blue or red.
