Newcastle may have won the race to sign £9m-rated Porto forward Vincent Aboubakar, according to a report from the Daily Express.
The 25-year-old looked set to join Ligue 1 side Rennes only for Rafa Benitez and his newly-promoted side to swoop in with an improved offer.

The French side may struggle to compete with the reported £2.5m annual wage the Tyneside club can offer the Cameroon international, and Aboubakar, who flourished on loan last season at Turkish champions Besiktas, looks to be on his way to St James’ Park.
Signing Aboubakar would be a major coup for the newly promoted side, and should he sign, he will reportedly join a flurry of summer reinforcements, with the signing of Eibar defender Florian Lejeune also expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
The North East club triggered a £8.7m clause in Lejeune’s contract and are said to be willing to pay the fee in full without installments.
