Newcastle’s striker search
As rumours swirl about that Rafa Benitez is unhappy with the amount of activity at St James’ Park this summer, Newcastle have only completed a handful of signings.
Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune, Javier Manquillo and Jacob Murphy have all joined the Toon, and according to reports in Greece last week Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris is set to be the club’s next addition.
However, in the past few days rumours have sped up that the Magpies could also be about to sign a new striker.
Indeed, the Magpies have bene linked to forwards from Arsenal and Real Madrid.
The Arsenal connection
Could Newcastle sign Lucas Perez?
That story is being touted by the Sun on Monday, as the Spanish striker seems firmly on the outside at the Gunners.
Aside from failing to establish himself as a first team starter last term, Perez has seen his squad number handed to Alexandre Lacazette.
That seems to signal his exit from the Emirates Stadium, while the Sun now tell their readers:
Newcastle plan to make Arsenal striker Lucas Perez their main man up front – despite his dream to go back to Spain.
The Toon hope they can offer a bigger fee to the Gunners (than what Deportivo La Coruna are offering) to swing the deal for the forward, who joined Arsenal only last year for £17million and who wants to try to make Spain’s World Cup squad next year.
The Real Madrid angle
Newcastle are also being linked with Real Madrid striker Lucas Vazquez.
Vazquez came up through Los Blancos’ youth ranks, eventually reaching the first-team after rejoining the club following a 2-year spell at Espanyol.
The 26 year-old has made 83 appearances for Madrid’s first team, winning two Champions Leagues and one La Liga title.
Vazquez is likely to be further shunted down the Real pecking order in the event Kylian Mbappe completes his move from Monaco.
