Underwhelming first season
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted that he will do better in his second season with the club.
While United have won the EFL Cup and reached the final of the Europa League, their league campaign has been dismal. Despite going on a 27-match unbeaten run, United are doomed to finish the season sixth.
That’s a place lower than last year but they can still qualify for the Champions League.
Mourinho told Omnisport: “I try to analyse the realities before I arrived in the club, but you only know the reality when you’re inside. The first season is hard. I enjoy the second because then I know I’m not making mistakes.
“You think you know the players, but you don’t. You only know them when you have them in good moments and bad moments. The one I really enjoy to do is the transition from the first to the second season.”
Great track record
While critics could accuse Mourinho of making excuses, he has performed better throughout his career in the second season of a spell. At Porto, he won the Champions League in his second full season along with the title.
At Chelsea, he won the Premier League title in the second season of his first spell.
He won the treble with Inter Milan in his second season there. In his second season with Real Madrid, he won La Liga, and in his last spell with Chelsea, the second season resulted in another title.
United fans will be excited to see what he can achieve next year.
