Manchester United make another move
Just a week after finally confirming the signing of Victor Lindelof from Benfica, Manchester United have launched another offer for a defender at the Portuguese giants.
Manchester United have been linked for some time with Benfica right back Nelson Semedo.
The 23-year-old right back has impressed at Benfica, where he has played since 2013.
Semedo bid confirmed
On Monday afternoon, Mundo Deportivo have confirmed that Manchester United have bid 35 million euros for Semedo.
The 23-year-old is also being tracked by Barcelona, who are in the market for a right back.
Hector Bellerin is still being heavily linked with Barcelona but may be difficult to prise away from Arsenal.
Semedo is considered second choice by Barcelona for the right back position, which may well be why Manchester United have made their move.
Benfica unlikely to accept Manchester United offer
Benfica president Luis Feipe Viera, who has extensive dealings with Manchester United of late, is hoping for an auction to sell Semedo.
Other major European clubs such as Manchester City and PSG are also believed to be interested in Semedo.
Benfica expect to raise at least 40 million euros from Semedo and are likely to reject this 35 million euro offer.
Barcelona still trying for Bellerin
In United’s favour is that Barcelona are still heavily invested in waiting to see whether they can sign Bellerin from Arsenal.
Bellerin is still waiting to see whether he can grab some time with Arsene Wenger to discuss a departure from Arsenal, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Nelson Semedo is currently with Portugal at the Confederations Cup. He was an unused substitute for the 2-2 draw with Mexico yesterday.
Portugal’s first choice right back is currently Cedric Soares of Southampton.
Antonio Valencia was a key player for Manchester United last season but was unable to play in every competition and was rested for the Europa League towards the end of the campaign.
