Manchester City are working on a deal to purchase a Uruguayan football team as they look to add to their growing list of foreign clubs, per Daily Mail.

The Etihad side are also thought to be looking into a deal in China, but they believe that a Uruguayan partner should be prioritised.

City Football Group already own New York City FC, Melbourne City and Yokohama Marinos, and are now looking to tap into the footballing riches of South America, as they believe that it would expand their commercial reach, as well as make it easier to sign players from the continent.

Third-party ownership has always been an issue with players joining European clubs from South America. City’s £27m purchase of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus was held up because of a third-party claim by the youngster’s agent, and the club are keen to avoid a repeat of such.

They know that having a partner on the ground would make things run much smoother in that regard.

Other Premier League clubs are also believed to be looking into buying South American clubs, butt City have already moved ahead, and could soon announce their new deal, before switching their focus to China.

Ferran Soriano, the man charged with overseeing the club’s global growth, has already spoken of his vision to have City own a football team in every continent.

Talk about world domination.
