Arsenal v Liverpool
The race for Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk is back on the agenda on Monday morning.
Over the weekend, Liverpool fans were once again encouraged a move for the Dutch international could happen.
On Saturday, a video was shared around Liverpool fans of Van Dijk reportedly ‘smiling’ when an Albanian Reds fan told him to switch to Anfield.
But wasn’t the only reason Liverpool fans still believe the deal could happen.
A Liverpool-centric social media account called LFCBres has been noticing that Van Dijk’s mate, a guy called Philip Uby, keeps on ‘liking’ his memes suggesting the Dutch defender could be joining the Reds.
However, according to the Express on Monday, it’s Arsenal who could be in pole position for the Saints star.
What’s the story?
Arsenal are preparing a £45 million bid for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to the Express. The tabloid report to their followers:
Liverpool were favourites to sign the 26-year-old but had to back off after Saints made an official complaint about the way they approach the transfer.
The £45m figure is a huge increase on the £12m the Gunners could have paid for van Dijk two years ago, when they stepped back and allowed him to go to Southampton.
Arsenal have already boost their backline adding Sead Kolasinic, while Alexandre Lacazette has joined from Lyon.
As for Alexis Sanchez, the latest on Monday is that the Chilean may be headed to PSG.
