Leo Messi's 43 days without football

Leo Messi’s long summer break

Argentine news outlet Ole have produced a piece over the weekend looking at Leo Messi’s summer, after the Argentine returned to Barcelona in the past few days.

It’s been an epic off-season for Messi as he married with childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo in a fabulous ceremony in Rosario. Most of the Barcelona squad travelled to South America for the event.

36 days off

Messi’s last match was back on June 9, when Argentina beat Brazil 1-0 in Jorge Sampaoli’s first match in charge of La Albiceleste. That match was a friendly played in Australia.

Since, Messi has relaxed in Spain, South America and the Caribbean, before he returned to Barcelona training last Friday.

In total, Messi had 36 days away from football this summer.

43 days without football

When it comes to competitive football, Messi will return to action next Saturday, on July 22, when Barcelona face Juventus in the International Champions Cup in America.

That’s 43 days since the match against Brazil.

The schedule then starts to pick up as Barca take on Man United on July 26, they face Real Madrid on July 29, followed by a match against Chapecoense on August 7.
