The football world has been in mourning on Friday after it was announced Tottenham coach Ugo Ehiogu died following a cardiac arrest.

The former England international, aged just 44 at the time of his death, collapsed at Spurs’ training ground on Thursday and was treated by the club’s medical staff before being taken by ambulance to hospital, where he died.

Tributes have been pouring in from figures throughout English football, but Ehiogu’s final tweet on social media has been retweeted over 7,000 times following his passing, with the post describing the former defender’s encounter with a homeless woman.

He wrote: “Gave a homeless girl £10 last night in Dalston. She didn’t ask or beg. Random impulsive act from me. Not gona lie. Felt good. #dosomethingkind.”

While heartbreaking, the post now shows that one of Ehiogu’s final acts was to help someone in need. Ehiogu’s former Aston Villa team-mate Paul Merson paid tribute on Sky Sports while many current and former Premier League footballers took to Twitter to express their condolences.
