Fiorentina’s Khouma Babacar has revealed that he was wanted by Serie A rivals Inter, but chose to turn down their offer and focus on attempting to win a trophy for his current team.
The Senegalese forward will line up against Inter on Saturday, and has a good goal scoring record against the Nerazzurri – scoring against them in Fiorentina’s 3-0 in the 2014/15 season and a 90th minute winner in last season’s fixture between the two teams.
Speaking to Football Italia, Babacar has revealed that his services were wanted by Inter, only for the striker to turn them down
“Inter wanted me. Seriously. But then I chose Florence. This city has welcomed me as a child, I feel indebted to them. I want to do something important for our fans,” he claimed.
“My first aim is to stay in Florence and win a trophy wearing this shirt. Only after focusing on this achievement could I think of going in search of new challenges. Florence is my home.”
Babacar doesn’t seem to think that such a feat is too far away, claiming his side are better than what most might think.
“Fiorentina are worth much more than than the current league position. And sometimes we have shown it.”
Fiorentina face off against Inter Milan on Saturday evening; a match that they will be determined to come away from with three points.
“It’s a game that we have to win. Europe is far away. But we have a duty to score as many points as we can in the matches that are left between now and the end of the season. It’s hard, but not impossible.”
