Juventus full-back Alex Sandro has been offered a new deal by the Serie A giants in a last-ditch attempt to warn off interest from Chelsea.

The Brazilian international is reportedly keen on a move to Stamford Bridge after the Premier League champions offered to double his wages to around £150k-a-week.

Juve’s general manager Beppe Marotta has confirmed that the West London side have tabled an offer for Sandro believed to be around £52m, which would have been a world-record fee for a defender.

According to the Standard, the Old Lady are trying to fight back and are prepared to offer the 26-year-old a new £100k-a-week deal, however, they are considering other options with Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy at the top of their list.

After their initial £52m bid was rejected, Antonio Conte’s side are expected to come back in with a higher offer and Marotta admits he does not know how the situation will pan out.

“I don’t know what he (Sandro) thinks about the interest,” he said. “Players are masters of their own destinies. If Alex Sandro receives a salary offer which isn’t logical for us, then…”

The signing of the former Porto man would be a big statement by the Blues and would hopefully remedy Conte’s apparent frustration at the club’s lack of transfer activity so far.

Sandro would likely slot straight into Chelsea’s starting XI if he did make the move, usurping Marcos Alonso despite the Spaniard enjoying a brilliant campaign in 2016/17.

Conte’s squad depth was questioned last season, but signing the Brazilian star would go a long way to fixing the issue.
