Arsene Wenger’s trust issues with Alexis Sanchez exposed

Arsene Wenger & Alexis Sanchez

One of the big stories for Arsenal fans over the weekend related to Alexis Sanchez.

On Friday, the Chilean star posted a couple of photos on social media revealing he was sick.

Alexis looked miserable as he sat on a couch with one of his dogs, wrapped up in a thick jumper and scarf.

If you wanted to take a picture illustrating the flu, Sanchez nailed it.

But was Alexis trying too hard to convince people he was under the weather? Is it a bit fishy that he contracted the flu just as he was supposed to be heading back to London after his long summer?

Wenger v the press

With just a year to go on his Arsenal contract, and having been the subject of transfer talk for months, many cynical fans thought Alexis’s update was a little shady.

After the Benfica game on Saturday, Arsene Wenger fielded questions on Sanchez, and he acknowledged why some reporters may be skeptical of the player’s social media update.

Di Marzio reveals trust issues

While Wenger tried to paint a picture of support for Sanchez, Italian journalist Gianluca DI Marzio has revealed his understanding that Wenger had trouble believing the Chilean was sick as well.

Di Marzio reports that Wenger ordered Sanchez see a doctor after finding out he was ill.

To be clear, Di Marzio states Wenger had problems “believing” Alexis.

The Chilean is expected back at Arsenal on Tuesday.

Staying with Arsenal, the back page of the Sun on Monday claims that Wenger is willing to write off £125 million of talent should Alexis, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leave next summer on free transfers.
