7. Kylian Mbappé Still on Fire!

After bullying Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, Kylian Mbappé won Monaco’s Ligue 1 game against Caen all by himself this weekend (0-3).

The 18-year-old wonderkid, who’s just been called up by Didier Deschamps for Les Bleus’ two upcoming games against Luxembourg and Spain this week, scored a brace and earned a penalty after a brilliant solo run. He’s so good he’ll soon be too expensive for any team to buy this summer!

6. Some Serious Milestones

Juventus v FC Porto - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg

So many records were beaten this weekend and if we had to talk individually about each one this article would be way too long. So, in a nutshell:

Fellaini scored this weekend. How is that a milestone? Well, that goal means that he’s now scored against 20 different Premier League teams in his career. Maybe there’s more to him than just his hair, after all. Also, thanks to this goal, Manchester United became the first club to reach 600 PL wins thanks to their 3-1 victory over Middlesborough.

Lionel Messi scored a brace in Barcelona’s win over Valencia (4-2). First, this was his HUNDREDTH brace with Barcelona. Hundredth! Second, he’s officially scored 40+ goals in all competitions for eight consecutive seasons. Tell us again how he’s not the best player in history.

Barcelona’s game vs Valencia was also Neymar’s 500th career game. He’s played 24 for Brazil’s youth teams/olympics, 75 for Brazil’s senior, 176 for Barcelona and 225 for Santos. Yep, that’s 500.

Speaking of big numbers of games played, Thomas Müller played his 250th BuLi game for Bayern this weekend, and even scored his team’s only goal as they took one step further towards the title.

Still on the number of games played subject, Gianluigi Buffon broke a 56 year-long record and became the player with the most minutes played for Juventus in Serie A. The record was 39,681 minutes and was held by Gampiero Boniperti (played for Juventus between 1946 and 1961), it’s now Buffon’s with 39,704 minutes.

Finally, Real Madrid just scored for the 49th consecutive game in all competitions thanks to Karim Benzema’s opening goal against Athletic Bilbao (1-2).

5. Griezmann Back on Top… With a Fresh New Celebration!

FBL-ESP-LIGA-ATLETICO-SEVILLA

Still sitting 4th in La Liga, Atlético got themselves a nice victory against their closest rival FC Sevilla thanks to an absolute beauty of a free-kick from their number 7, Antoine Griezmann.

Although ‘Grizou’ didn’t celebrate with his trademark ‘Hotline Bling’ style this time, he instead once again showed his love for NBA with a nice JR Smith celebration.

4. Girondins de Bordeaux’s President Flares a Smoke Up for His Last Game

For his last game as Bordeaux’s president after a lengthy 21 year stint, Jean-Louis Triaud enjoyed a nice moment of communion with the supporters after his team’s large victory over Montpellier (5-1).

A memorable final game for the supporters, and the now former-president, who lit up a flare and mimed smoking it with the fans like a cigar. Au revoir, President!

3. Manchester United Are Out of 6th Place!

Middlesbrough v Manchester United - Premier League

Taking advantage of Arsenal’s hideous current form, Manchester United finally dragged themselves out of 6th place with a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough.

They’d been sitting in this place since matchday 11 (against Swansea), 133 days to be precise. About time the made a move!

2. Planes Fly Over the Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal - Premier League

Apparently, the #WengerOut campaign followed our advice! While their team was pathetically losing to West Brom, getting deeper and deeper into a crisis, a plane asking for Wenger to leave at the end of the season flew over the Baggies’ Hawthorns stadium.

Later, another plane supporting Wenger, saying “In Arsene we trust #RespectAW” was also spotted over the stadium. Which means the #RespectAW campaign is pretty wealthy as well!

1. Derry City’s Captain Ryan McBride Dies at 27

Ryan McBride

Closing this article on the saddest possible note. The football world is mourning one of its own as Irish side Derry City’s captain, Ryan McBride, was found dead this weekend in his room after a game. He was 27.

The tragic loss of such an influential and well-respected player is bound to have a massive impact at Derry City.

At least, he passed away a happy man, following a 4-0 win from his side. Rest in peace.
